Our mission is to support you in creating the fitness you want for your body and your life. We offer functional and unconventional fitness with purpose in Portland parks and kettlebell training at Gem Studio, as well as personal training and health coaching to help you achieve your goals. We are dedicated to promoting well-being, not just for you, but for our world; we contribute 15% of our proceeds to community organizations. We use minimal electricity to power our workouts, the structures we find around us and recycled materials to create a fitness experience that has minimal environmental impact.

Laughter Yoga
Laughter Yoga was developed in 1995 by Madan Kataria, MD; it is based on the premise that the physiological benefits of laughter can be derived without relying on external humor. Rather, the practice of Laughter Yoga ties together child-like playfulness with yogic breathing. You needn’t have a sense of humor, or a reason to laugh; just a conscious decision to ‘fake it till you make it’. Your body still benefits, because it doesn’t know the difference between real and fake laughter! Laughter has an array of physical emotional and spiritual health benefits. Laughter has been shown to strengthen the immune system, increase endorphin and serotonin levels and--even counts as exercise! Because it is an aerobic activity, it increases pulmonary and cardiovascular function. Laughter is also a cathartic activity, allowing us to release emotions and can help ease the struggles of everyday life. Laughter can improve self-confidence, self-expression, and ability to stay grounded in the present. Laughter Yoga should ideally be practiced in the morning in order for the positive and cheerful feelings to carry through the day.
